Position Summary

The Director, Eliot Society Experience, reports to the Senior Director, Eliot Society Experience and leads the overall programming of Eliot Society volunteers. This role involves managing all aspects of Eliot Society volunteer recruitment, overseeing leadership volunteers and chairs, hosting bi-annual meetings, and coordinating volunteer stewardship. The Director will lead the strategy and engagement efforts to develop a robust Eliot Society volunteer network in collaboration with the Executive Director, Annual Giving & Volunteer Experience, and the Eliot Society Experience team. Travel is required 10% of the year.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work closely with front-line fundraisers and colleagues to ensure all Eliot Society volunteers renew their support and consider upgraded giving and multi-year commitments when appropriate.
  • Lead the recruitment effort for new and diverse Eliot Society volunteers. Collaborate with the Eliot Society New Donor Engagement Chair to strategize the recruitment of new members and volunteers.
  • Lead efforts in collaboration with colleagues for Eliot Society volunteer leadership succession planning.
  • Host bi-annual volunteer meetings for city chairs, school & program chairs, and upper-level Eliot Society volunteers. Host at least one in-person Eliot Society volunteer gathering in the top five markets outside of St. Louis.
  • Design and conduct comprehensive training program for volunteers. Ensure volunteers are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to be effective in their roles.
  • Identify donors and prospects to assign to upper-level volunteers. Create briefing documents for our highest-level volunteer leaders.
  • Lead oversight of the annual Eliot Society volunteer plan, including recruitment efforts, trainings, meetings, outreach, and stewardship.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer management, fundraising, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a complex university environment.
  • Supervisory experience, with the ability to lead and mentor a team that indirectly supports volunteer engagement efforts.
  • Experience working with leadership volunteers, including recruitment, training, and stewardship.
  • Proven track record of working with high-level prospects and donors, including solicitation and cultivation strategies.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically, and to plan and implement effectively.
  • Demonstrated interest in meeting people with a strong desire to initiate contact with and develop relationships with volunteers.
  • Proven success as a collaborative team member, capable of working effectively within a complex organization across multiple units and dealing with diverse constituents.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent program management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects effectively; a highly organized work style is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail, highly motivated, organized, and energetic.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience.

Salary Range

$82,500.00 - $145,200.00 / Annually

Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
