BASIC FUNCTION:
The Data Analyst will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting institutional and external data to provide findings and reports for use in decision making and in support of the college's strategic initiatives.
SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:
Involves no responsibility or authority for the direction of others.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts include Department Chair, faculty, and students. External contacts include affiliated schools and hospitals.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Assisting with the gathering and verification of institutional data including the development of complex database queries related to enrollment and completion
- Create reporting standards that demonstrate accurate and consistent work processes
- Completing federal, state, and higher education reports and surveys for the University in compliance with mandated deadlines
- Assisting academic and administrative departments in data collection and analysis as well as in survey development and deployment
- Collaborate with data owners/data stewards to facilitate the appropriate use of the data; including university census data used for reporting
- Supporting and assisting with the annual institutional report for MSCHE and providing institutional data for grant applications
- Assisting academic departments in addressing accreditation requirements by providing data and assisting with data analysis and surveys for accreditation reports and visits
- Designing and preparing analysis and reports for internal users including annual University Fact Book
- Maintaining Institutional Research website, portal pages, and calendars
- Collaborating with the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment on strategic projects
- Access and extract data from data warehouses and other data sources using tools such as Hyperion, Tableau or other SQL browsers; Assist Institutional Effectiveness staff with data cleaning and preparation.
- Conduct research, analyze data, and generate reports and visualizations utilizing tools such as Excel, SPSS and Tableau
- Serve on and support efforts of college committees, task forces, and work groups; Support Institutional Effectiveness office staff with operational needs such as website updates and other duties as assigned.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to compile and merge data from multiple sources and systems.
- Experience extracting complex data sets from relational databases using queries written in SQL or SQL browsers.
- Knowledge of preparing data for Common Data Set and external surveys (US News, ect).
- Skilled in managing queries and reporting data for internal data request.
- Ability to maintain and update databases relating to faculty workloads, course assignments, and other information.
- Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Experience designing and/or conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
- Experience presenting research results, either with written reports or verbal presentations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Statistics, Data Science, Analytics, Science, Social Science or a related quantitative discipline plus at least two years’ experience in data analysis, or a Master’s degree in a statistics-related field. A functional knowledge of personal computers and mainframe applications for data acquisition and analysis is required. Personal computer knowledge must include the ability to prepare documents, reports, spreadsheets, and databases using a variety of PC programs including MS Office Suite software applications. Excellent data interpretation skills and the ability to write concise analytical reports that are directed to specific readership is also required.
