The Opportunity
TC Energy's Facilities Reliability & Integrity Engineering Services (FRIES) organization is a team of experts who leverage deep technical skills and subject matter expertise to maximize the value of the company's facilities assets across North America. The FRIES organization is responsible for developing fit-for-purpose technical standards and asset management strategies that balance risk, asset performance, and cost. Additionally, FRIES provides escalated subject matter expert (SME) support to resolve complex engineering challenges and support operations and project engineering functions.
Within the FRIES organization, the Industrial Controls & Cybersecurity (IC&C) team comprises engineering SMEs with deep technical expertise on systems and equipment core to gas facilities processes, but outside of the prime mover (i.e., compressor units and the main pipeline through facilities). The IC&C team consists of Industrial Controls and Cybersecurity engineering SMEs with four primary accountabilities:
Serving as the technical authority for engineering standards
Providing Tier 3 (escalated) engineering support to operations
Developing asset management strategies
Supporting project engineering functions
The IC&C team is seeking an Industrial Control System and Cybersecurity Engineer who has industry and technical knowledge, as well as experience in gas facilities industrial control systems.
This role is responsible for architecting, providing installation assistance, maintaining, and troubleshooting ICS networks across TC Energy's North American footprint. Additional responsibilities include developing procedures, processes, integrity plans, and training to keep ICS networks reliable and supportable by field personnel, as well as keeping the ICS assets cybersecure through patching, end-of-life integrity plans, and defense-in-depth architectures.
What you'll do
Architect, install, maintain, and troubleshoot TC Energy's Industrial Control System (ICS) facility networks across North America
Provide Tier 3 subject matter expertise to field teams, helping them identify and resolve problems, analyze malfunctions, make modifications or repairs, and offer technical assistance
Maintain Asset Management Plans, Integrity Plans, and Facility Management Plans for ICS network assets
Provide technical guidance, instruction, and assistance related to the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and modifications of ICS networks involving HMI, communications, controls, monitoring, and analytics equipment
Train ICS personnel on practices necessary to meet Cyber Security requirements, effectively troubleshoot and maintain ICS networks, and implement new asset types
Monitor for vulnerabilities, risk-rank them, and help formulate remediation steps
Implement and perform firmware and patching upgrades for all ICS hardware and software
Help track and record firmware and patching levels for ICS hardware and software, including PLCs, switches, protocol converters, VFDs, soft starters, RTUs, flow meters, chromatographs, thin clients, and HMI software
Manage TC Energy's ICS adherence to Cyber Security policies and standards, and ensure compliance with applicable mandates

Analyze automation schedules and construction plans to determine their impact on existing facilities and operations
Investigate, analyze, and make recommendations related to the integrity and/or efficiency of equipment
Maintain and expand expertise to stay current with emerging technologies, and implement changes to ensure efficient and effective operations
Communicate best practices, improvement opportunities, new technologies, and general information to others in the organization
Promote and provide for standardization of equipment, maintenance functions, programs, and procedures across field operations
Support the Field Technician Qualification and Operator Qualification programs by setting performance standards, providing mentoring and verification services, and delivering technical training
Monitor data acquisition systems and related computer equipment, coordinate software modifications, and ensure compliance with company standards, policies, and procedures
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
For Canadian candidates, registered as a P.Eng in the prevailing jurisdiction in good standing (e.g., APEGA in Alberta).
Solid experience in the configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Cisco IOS-based network switches
Demonstrated ability to architect ICS networks, including zoning, sub-zoning, and familiarity with the Purdue Model
Proficient operating knowledge of electrical, controls, and automation systems
Broad understanding of various PLC and HMI platforms
Preferred qualifications
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing best-practice switch configurations for ICS environments
Knowledge of firewall operations and the ability to configure effective rule structures
Proven track record of remote troubleshooting network issues under high-stress situations
Experience using Windows Network Policy Server or RADIUS server authentication for network switches
Familiarity with the configuration and implementation of SNMP v3
Proficiency with Solarwinds tools, such as Network Configuration Manager and Network Performance Monitor
Understanding of Converged Plantwide Ethernet (CPwE) architectures
Knowledge of Active Directory, Sites and Services architecture, and DNS structuring
Familiarity with Python or comparable scripting languages
Expertise in installing, updating, and configuring computer application software, network security software, and documenting computer systems and networks
Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining robust computer system and network security measures
Ability to assess and mitigate potential security threats
Background in the gas pipeline industry
Broad knowledge and experience in industrial data communications
Familiarity with Allen-Bradley equipment and control systems
This position requires candidates to
Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
Successfully complete a pre- employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
Be available for extended work hours/days, and callouts as needed;
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
