We are seeking a detail-oriented Utility Data Analyst to join our team. This role involves reviewing and manually scraping utility data from monthly invoices, with a specific focus on waste data. The successful candidate will utilize advanced data analytics tools to provide actionable insights, support strategic decisions, and enhance operational efficiency. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in data visualization tools, and a solid understanding of utility industry metrics.

What your day to day will look like:

Data Management

  • Data Analysis Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot errors or inconsistencies in data.
    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance data collection processes to streamline efficiency and accuracy. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements and best practices.
  • Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets related to utility services, including consumption patterns, operational metrics, and customer demographics.
  • Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, and Excel to communicate insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify data needs and analytical requirements.
  • Conduct in-depth statistical analyses to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies within utility data.
  • Present findings and recommendations to management and stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide insights to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Support regulatory reporting and compliance initiatives through accurate data analysis and documentation.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data analytics and utility management.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis techniques, including statistical analysis, trend identification, and predictive modeling. Strong proficiency in spreadsheet software (e.g., Excel, SmartSheets) and data analysis tools.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to meticulously collect, validate, and interpret large volumes of data with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex findings and recommendations to diverse audiences.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with data management software, database querying languages (e.g., SQL), and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Capacity to identify issues, propose solutions, and implement process improvements to optimize data collection and analysis workflows.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively, adhering to deadlines and delivering results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to achieve common goals and objectives.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in data analysis, preferably within the utilities or energy sector.
  • Strong proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI and Tableau.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex formulas.
  • Solid understanding of data analytics concepts, statistical methods, and data manipulation techniques.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL or other database querying languages.
  • Knowledge of utility industry regulations and best practices.
  • Familiarity with predictive analytics and machine learning concepts
