Responsible for assisting in managing, monitoring and building predictive risk models that support retail and small business Credit Strategies in Personal & Commercial banking. The candidate will have the opportunity to explore the latest machine learning algorithms and develop models on state of the art distributed computing infrastructure.

What will you do?

  • Assist in developing predictive risk models that support credit decisions in Portfolio Management and Credit Strategies (adjudication, account management and collection)
  • Assist in resolving issues raised by independent validation, Internal Audit and ongoing model monitoring
  • Assist with documentation related to existing models (annual assessment and re-validation, model updates)
  • Assist with monitoring existing models, identifying potential weaknesses and limitations, conduct deep dives if necessary
  • Explore and leverage best practices in model development and management
  • Provide input into decision making process on technical details around the modeling solution, development, ongoing management and deployment of models

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning
  • Advanced Programming skills in Python and SQL
  • Experience or understanding of distributed computing (Hadoop and Spark) and relational databases (Teradata, SQLite, MySQL and similar)

  • Ability to data extract, transform, and load processes with a variety of data types
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
  •  Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis on large volumes of data and present findings to stakeholders
  • Strong MS Office skills – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint

 Nice-to-have

  • Proficient in building statistical and algorithmic models with complex and large datasets, including but not limited to: supervised statistical learning, clustering, times-series analysis, experimental design (A/B testing), data visualization, deep learning
  • Knowledge of design, development, and implementation utilizing current analytics technologies and architecture, as well as data warehouse concepts and methodologies
  • Relational database concepts and design experience
  • Ability to learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems) quickly and apply new knowledge

Please note: This posting is for a 4-months Winter 2025 Student placement with a start date of January 2025, and end date of April 2025. In order to be eligible for this 4-months Student position, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of April 2025 ; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April 2025), you must require the full 4-months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
