The Oregon Military Department is a state agency that supports the Oregon National Guard. You are NOT required to be a member of the Oregon National Guard to apply for this position.
The Oregon Military Department is recruiting for 2 Firefighters. These are Limited Duration full-time state positions with funding expected thru the federal 2025 fiscal year. These positions are located at the Portland Air National Guard Base in Portland, Oregon.
These positions are represented by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) at Oregon Military Department - Portland Air National Guard Firefighters.

What You Will be Doing
The Fire Fighter acts as a member of a crew, under the leadership of a Lieutenant, Fire Captain, or Fire Chief to suppress fires and rescue personnel from accident sites. This position is part of the Shift “Team”; in that the individual must be fully competent in the operation of every vehicle and piece of equipment, have complete knowledge of all applicable department policies, rules, regulations and to support both the civilian and military operations.
Working Conditions
Individual works as assigned, rotating shift of 48 hours on duty and 96 hours off duty or other hours as directed by management, is subject to recall when off duty to respond to emergencies and attend department meeting as determined by management. Individual is subject to work on holidays and weekends. Work is performed on an active airfield and is subject to work in and around aircraft carrying hazardous and dangerous cargo such as chemicals, explosives, special and conventional weapons, munitions, thousands of gallons of fuel, and large numbers of passengers in addition to weapons storage areas, large POL tank storage areas, large aircraft maintenance/fuel cell maintenance facilities with hangered aircraft.
What You Need to Qualify
Must possess DoD Certifications upon hire:
Firefighter I
Firefighter II
Airport Fire Fighter
Must obtain within 12 months of hire
Oregon State EMT Basic or higher and maintain
DOD Certifications:
Haz Mat Awareness
Haz Mat Operations
Driver/Operator Pumper
Driver/Operator ARFF
Driver/Operator-Mobil Water Supply
National Incident Management System (NIMS)

Additional Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Must have valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) at time of hire. (Candidates will be required to provide valid favorable CPAT certificate).
Conditions of Employment
Must have and maintain a favorable criminal background check.
The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid DoD Confidential Security Clearance (T3).
The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a restrictive area badge and Port of Portland driving badge.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a NFPA 1582 physical fitness exam at the time of hire and annually thereafter.
Military Department regulation also requires satisfactory completion of an annual physical assessment.
Employee is required to maintain a drug/alcohol free workplace in accordance with OMD Drug/Alcohol CPM’s, Policies, and the Statewide Drug Free Workplace Policy 50-000-01.
