Purpose of the Job

The purpose of a Digital Software Engineer is to design, develop, and maintain software applications that meet user and business needs. This role involves collaborating with team members, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and ensuring code quality through reviews and adherence to best practices. The Software Engineer is expected to continuously enhance technical skills, contribute to documentation, and support existing applications, all while playing a crucial role in delivering high-quality software solutions that align with project objectives.

• Deliver High-Quality Solutions: Ensure the successful design, development, and deployments meet and exceed organizational requirements and industry standards.

• Optimize System Performance: Continuously evaluate and enhance the performance, reliability, and scalability of the system to support business needs and improve user satisfaction.

• Ensure Compliance and Security: Implement and enforce best practices for compliance, security, and data protection within the system, adhering to regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

• Foster Collaboration and Communication: Promote effective communication and collaboration across teams and with stakeholders to ensure alignment, manage expectations, and facilitate successful project outcomes.

• Drive Innovation: Identify and implement innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance system functionality and maintain a competitive edge.

Experience, knowledge & skills required

• Degree in Computer Science or related qualification

• 2+ years’ experience or related

• Experience in Agile Methodology or Related 

• Core programming principles (SOLID, DRY, OOP)

• Experience with CI/CD

• React or Angular Development

The Recruitment process:

• TA Interview: This will be a discussion with a member of the TA Team to give you an understanding of our business, our culture & values and more context on the role. It will also allow up the opportunity to get to know you a little better, and ensure OMI can meet your needs
• Panel Interview: This will be with 2 members of the senior leadership of the data team and 1 member of the HC leadership team
• Technical & Psychometric Assessments: These will depend on the role and will sometimes happen concurrently with MIE & Internal Verification

Responsibilities

Application Software Development

Develop existing applications and contribute to development of new applications by analyzing and identifying areas for modification and improvement. Develop new routine applications to meet customer requirements.

Applications Software Maintenance

Monitor, identify, and correct more complex software defects to maintain fully functioning applications software.

Design and Conceptualization

Produce multiple concepts and prototypes to design digital products/services.

Technical Developments Recommendation

Discuss and recommend technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/applications software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.

Application Software Road Map

Contribute to and maintain a roadmap to facilitate application software development and ensure the development work is prioritized in line with business requirements.

Faults Diagnosis and Correction

Provide fault isolation and resolution to limit and address issues promptly.

Documentation

Create and maintain complex technical and/or user documentation to a high standard.

Testing Information Technology (IT) Performance

Design and perform website/applications software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues.

Operational Compliance

Maintain and renew a deep knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, and ensure own work adheres to required standards. Or identify, within the team, patterns of noncompliance with the organization's policies and procedures and with relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, taking appropriate action to report and resolve these and escalating issues as appropriate.

Information Security

Implement required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption, and provide input on their design, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.

Horizon Scanning

Explore and develop a detailed understanding of external developments or emerging issues and contribute to the evaluation of their potential impact on, or usefulness to, the organization.

Data Collection and Analysis

Conduct research using primary data sources, and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends.

Analysis of "As Is" and "To Be"

Document "as is" and "to be" processes and describe the changes required to migrate to the "to be" capability to record accurately the change required.

Technical Database Support

Design distribution of basic database resources and provide physical modeling and design services to tune database applications for optimum performance.
