About the Team

It's fun to work in a company where people truly believe in what they're doing. At Workday, we're committed to bringing passion and customer centricity to the business of enterprise applications. We work hard, and we're serious about what we do. But we like to have a good time, too. In fact, we run our company with that principle in mind every day: One of our core values is fun.

The Monitoring and Logging Team (MALT) is dedicated to building the tools and infrastructure that power visibility, performance, and reliability across Workday’s Extend platform.

About the Role

This role will support one or more direct or indirect contracts with the U.S. Federal Government which, due to federal government security requirements, mandates that all Workday personnel working on the contracts be United States citizens (naturalized or native).

In this role, you’ll design and deliver scalable, secure, and developer-friendly solutions that support everything from logs and metrics to system health and diagnostics. This is a hands-on engineering position where code quality, thoughtful design, and tight-knit collaboration are key to success.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs that support internal observability and logging systems.

  • Apply algorithmic thinking and object-oriented design to create maintainable and performant solutions.

  • Write comprehensive automated tests and participate in code reviews to ensure quality and resiliency.

  • Author and maintain clear, usable technical documentation for internal users and team members.

  • Work closely with other engineers and stakeholders to understand use cases and deliver solutions that scale.

  • Participate in team discussions and design sessions with candid communication and a collaborative mindset.

About You

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong software development experience, with fluency in modern backend languages and design principles.

  • Proficiency in API development, code testing, and object-oriented programming.

  • A knack for simplifying complex technical problems into scalable and practical implementations.

  • Strong team collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across functions and roles.

  • A commitment to trust building, accountability, and adaptability in a fast-moving environment.

  • Curiosity and creativity in solving problems and improving developer experience.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years overall experience developing software products required.

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with object-oriented programming languages such as Java and design patterns.

  • Experience delivering back-end services in micro-service or event-driven architectures.

  • Experience with version control technologies such as Git, SVN, etc.

Other Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, in Computer Science/Engineering or related technical field.

  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in observability technologies (Grafana Loki or Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Beats, Logstash, OpenTelemetry).

  • Experience in cloud native architecture (Docker, Kubernetes, Istio, Helm, Envoy).

  • Experience in AWS technologies (Lambda, S3, Kinesis).

  • Experience in Kotlin, Golang, REST.

  • Some front-end experience in developing cross-platform web applications such as React.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we’re combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Workday is an Equal Opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.
