Artificial Intelligence Educational Specialist (highpoint)

Job Description

High Point University is looking for a full-time Artificial Intelligence Educational Specialist in the Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning. This is a full-time, 12-month, staff or non-tenure track faculty, appointment designed to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence (AI) technology and educational practices, focusing on implementing AI solutions to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. The AI Educational Specialist is responsible for leading the integration of AI technologies into educational programs and practices. This role will be instrumental in exploring, implementing, and evaluating AI-driven solutions to enhance teaching and learning outcomes across the institution. In addition, the AI Educational Specialist will also assist in developing an AI educational strategic plan, collaborate with faculty and staff, research and assess emerging technologies, and ensure ethical AI use in education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Education Technology, Learning Sciences, or a related field; PhD preferred
• Degree must be from a regionally accredited institution or equivalent

Experience and Training

• Minimum of 5 years of experience preferred working with AI technologies in higher educational settings preferred
• Experience working with various faculty across multiple disciplines
• Experience with learning management systems and educational software platforms

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

• Demonstrated understanding of technology use and AI applications in education and their potential impact on teaching and learning
• Strong leadership and management skills
• Strong understanding of machine learning, natural language processing, and other AI techniques
• Excellent programming skills, particularly in languages commonly used in AI (e.g., Python, R)
• Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

The candidate selected for this position will perform all duties directed by the Director, Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning. The candidate will be expected to perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement AI strategies to support innovative teaching and learning initiatives
• Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to integrate AI tools into curriculum and course design
• Research and evaluate emerging AI technologies for potential educational applications
• Design and conduct training programs on AI in education for faculty and staff Analyze data and assess the impact of AI implementations on student learning outcomes
• Develop policies and guidelines for the ethical use of AI in educational contexts
• Collaborate with IT to ensure seamless integration of AI tools with existing systems
• Stay current with advancements in AI and education technology, sharing insights with the broader academic community
