Full time, fixed term role until the 31st of December 2027 based on the Camperdown Campus
Exciting opportunity to leverage data analysis knowledge and research experience to inform world class research at the University of Sydney Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN) node
Base Salary $108,557 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
As the APPN Data Scientist at the Sydney Informatics Hub, you will bring advanced technical expertise and project management skills to support data science initiatives led by the Australian Plant Phenomics Network (APPN) node at the University of Sydney. Your role will involve providing data support to the APPN technicians based at the Narrabri facility while leveraging your expertise in data science, generative AI, machine learning and computer vision to researchers and contribute to APPN involved research projects.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work in a collaborative and cohesive team environment, reporting to the Data Science Group Lead, APPN
provide APPN support services, including designing and deploying reusable data pipelines to process equipment-generated data
contribute to research by analysing and modelling high-resolution imagery datasets, such as those from drones or robots
develop and maintain software tools and data systems for the phenomics platforms hosted by the APPN USyd node
implement advanced deep learning and generative AI techniques, with a focus on agricultural models customized for Australian landscapes
provide training to and support diverse user communities working in GIS, Computer Vision, and agriculture
About you
tertiary qualifications in a related field
experience working within a research environment
experience in application of data science, statistical modelling, and machine learning technologies to a variety of complex data sets
demonstrated experience working in GIS and Computer Vision
experience in planning and development of complex data processing software and pipelines, processing data from a variety of sources and destinations, ranging from file systems to enterprise data systems
experience in the processing and analysis of remote sensing data collected using drone and satellite-based sensors is highly desirable
stakeholder management skills, with the ability to run projects with researchers with minimal supervision.
