The Service Management Modernisation Program (SMM) is a pivotal transformation to achieve the target state DevSecOps vision.  

In simple terms, we aim to optimise some highly manual and administrative operational work, to simplify the life of service owners and engineers who build and run these services. This role will support directly this highly visible and in-demand roadmap of modernisation and automations.  

The backlog of work is wide can range from simplifying a process, eliminate some hands-off or attestations, to completely automate the way we run our compliance around technology controls. The technologies will be around Data and analytics, UI and dashboards, automations and system integrations.  

This newly formed squad will be embedded in SRE engineering and start working together at with a new Product Manager who can balance effort and complexity across a list of improvements you will be involved with engineers in Business units to creatively solve their problems and pan points.  

 

Cultural fit and attitude first. Main responsibilities as Staff Software Engineer:  

  • Reducing manual TOIL with automation

  • Assess manual processes and design efficient, modern alternatives

  • System integration skills, ensuring all parts of the automation system work together seamlessly are also crucial

  • Excellent debugging skills; able to debug complex technical issues involving multiple system components

  • Strong communication skills ensure you can effectively share ideas and solutions with your team

 

Tech skills  

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;  

  • You are a full cycle developer, technical specialist or a senior software engineer who enjoys the challenge and satisfaction of writing elegant and efficient code

  • Advanced experience one or more of GoLang, C#, Python, Net Core, SQL, and React. Infrastructure of Code, Cloud (AWS)and Automation (PowerShell, Shell Scripting)

  • Passion for continually improving the processes for CBA engineers and knowledge of micro services architecture and RESTful APIs

  • Advance familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence and ServiceNow and Container technology, Docker and Kubernetes/EKS

  • Source control and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD TeamCity and Artifactory, Monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Graphana and Splunk

  • Advanced experience with modern software engineering practices such as Trunk development, Unit Testing, and Test Driven Development (TDD)

  • Indepth knowledge and experience in the area of application development and design specialisation and Demonstrated experience with continuous delivery technologies, CI / CD solution design and implementation.
