The HRI Scientist will support machine and deep learning artificial intelligence (AI) research within the Biomedical Research Informatics Shared Resource (BRISR) at Roswell Park. This role will involve working on innovative research projects in the medical oncology domain and fostering development of AI-related skills. The candidate will collaborate with principal investigators (PIs), fellows, and students on research projects related to algorithm and model development for clinical, genomic, and other -omic data, including broadly, outcome prediction, clustering, transfer learning, and/or natural language processing under the direction of AI-related faculty members in BRISR. Responsibilities include active communication with collaborators and the BRISR team, model development and implementation, and computational model assessment and analysis. The HRI scientist is expected to stay up to date with developments in machine and deep learning dependent on the assigned projects.In this role, you will:
• Gain expertise in broad applications and research related to medical oncology and AI
• Work closely with the Director of BRISR on AI-related development and research projects
• Have opportunities for co-authorship of meaningful and impactful publications
• Help to develop innovative solutions and provide strategic direction on how to approach projects with AI-related subject matter expertise
• Implement and assess developed models in relevant programming languages (Python, R)
• Assist fellows and students on AI-related projects
• Document work in progress and experimentation results and share findings with the BRISR team and collaborators
The salary range for this position is $39,900-$185,000 annually, which includes a comprehensive benefits package. The actual offer may vary based on qualifications, skills and experience.
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience1. M.D. or PhD in an appropriate field; or
2. Master’s degree in an appropriate field.
NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Biomedical/Medical/Clinical Informatics, Bioinformatics, Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field of science or engineering, or;
- Strong experience with Python and/or R programming languages.
- Proven track record of collaborating on research projects in a medical or academic setting.
- Experience analyzing big data/high-dimensional data sets, especially regarding clinical or -omic data.
- Experience developing and assessing models in one or more of the broad areas of outlined in the summary (e.g., outcome prediction, clustering, transfer learning, and/or natural language processing)
- Ability to stay up to date with advancements in machine and deep learning.
- Willingness to co-author publications and provide assistance on grant application development.
