What You Will be Doing:
As the Software Development Specialist, you will work in conjunction with the team lead and other team members to maintain and grow the Research division’s labor market information systems. The Software Development Specialist does this by implementing front-end and back-end applications of Liferay Portal Java Portlets, under guidance of the team’s Senior Systems Architect and Lead Systems Architect. This requires working with team members to understand customer requirements, documenting code according to standards, deploying applications, troubleshooting technical issues and implement solutions. May require overnight travel any time of the year for presentations, meetings or training.
In this role, you will:
- Program and develop new and unique labor market information systems to support changing business and customer needs.
- Follow coding standards for application development and deployment.
- Test applications for correct functionality and accessibility.
- Provide assistance and guidance to any staff conducting training in the use of QualityInfo.org or other Research Systems products.

What We Are Looking For (Desired Attributes):
- Demonstrated experience developing portlets with a focus on the end user.
- Experience developing End-to-End implementation of Liferay Portal HTML and JavaScript UI frameworks (jQuery, Bootstrap)
- Demonstrated experience using Linux, Java, SQL (Oracle, MySQL), and Web Development (HTML, Javascript)
- Technical experience writing clear code
- Team player, which includes demonstrated skill and ability to collaborate with teammates and build positive business relationships with superiors, subordinates, peers, and others outside of their organization.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to learn and solve problems using the latest capabilities of software and browsers.

- Preference may be given to candidates with experience utilizing a variety of other software and data (i.e. Java Portal/Portlet Development, Liferay CMS, OSGI, REST APIs, Labor Market Information or economic data sets).
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Four (4) years of information systems experience in application development and/or web design; OR
- An Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field; AND two (2) years of information systems experience in application development and/or web design; OR
- A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.
