Minimum Education: Master of Science in Applied Mathematics
Work Experience: 1-2 years working in a related field.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Capacity to develop expert knowledge about analysis software packages such as, R, AFNI, Matlab, FSL, and Linus/UNIX-based systems. Excellent verbal, writing, reporting, communication and organizational skills. Work independently for the common goals of the programs, as well as work with investigators in a multidisciplinary dynamic and fast moving environment.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Evaluate, develop, support and oversee implementation of computer software programs and data analytic routines used within LIBR facilities to achieve and maintain state-of-the-art analysis of these neuroimaging, psychophysiological, and behavioral data. Work collaboratively with investigators who will apply neuroimaging (functional and structural MRI), psychophysiology (such as EKG, SCR, EEG), and behavioral testing (including various paradigms and self report), in investigations of the neurobiology of normal and pathological cognitive- emotional states. Formulate a general data analytic plan and set of data analytic routines, as well as the development of more specific data analytic routines to address unique needs of specific investigations at LIBR. These analytic routines will include standard processing and analysis software packages such as R, AFNI, Matlab, and FSL. Facilitate the efficient collection, processing, and analysis of neuroimaging, psychophysiological, and behavioral data by investigators at LIBR, participate in the training of new staff in the implementation of procedures for processing and analysis, and support the quality control procedures of advanced data analytic pathways. Given the rapid evolution of neuroimaging research technology and analytic techniques, in many instances this will require the individual to develop novel solutions to emergent or relatively unanticipated problems and work closely with investigators to identify the nature of the emergent problems and the most appropriate solutions, and consultation with other senior experts in image analysis, neuroscience, computer science, and biostatistics working outside of LIBR. Aid investigators in interpretation of the results of data analytic routines. Communicate results in clear terms through documentation, write-ups, presentations, and visual representation. Participate with other researchers in the preparation of scientific papers and grant applications.
