Job Description
Hybrid: This role is categorized as Hybrid. This means that the successful candidate is expected to report to the office, on-site, three times (Tue., Wed., Thurs.) per week, at minimum.
The Team: The Mechatronic Software Platform Organization is an engaged, inclusive, and innovative team that is leading GM’s mission to create a robust mechatronic software infrastructure platform for our Software Defined Vehicle future. This platform will enable GM to deliver features and functions that will excite and delight our customers. We are creating low-level infrastructure embedded software for new state-of-the-art microcontrollers which will support bringing new technologies into vehicles – developing and inventing simultaneously. These are exciting times, and we want you to help us solve these problems by engineering solutions to solve the challenges this new future presents!
The Role:
As an Embedded Software Engineer
Responsibilities:
Design, development, implement, and debug of embedded controls systems software in embedded C language
Test & demonstrate software functionality & readiness in prototype benches.
Supply common solutions across all GM owned software
Document requirements for design solution and link them to test cases that can demonstrate software functionality
Utilize automated test tools in build environments and benches to verify functionality of the developed software
Collaborate with specialized teams such as Systems, Safety, Electrical Architecture, Cybersecurity, Hardware, Calibration, and Vehicle Performance
Support root cause analysis and debugging
Collaborate with Suppliers to develop micro, peripheral, and ECU specific solutions for new technology
Drive software quality improvements to determine if restructuring is needed to improve quality, maintainability, reusability, or other software improvements
Troubleshoot code to resolve design deficiencies and develop solutions to resolve them
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Engineering degree
Understanding and experience with Embedded C programming.
0-3+ years of experience in Embedded C software development
General understanding and knowledge of microcontroller infrastructure and basic software principles
General understanding and use of configuration management practices (Git, GitHub, etc.)
Proven ability to work to schedule, delivering to deadlines
High level of oral and written communication skills
High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and collaborate effectively with others
High level of analytical problem-solving skills and ability to deal with ambiguity
Desired Skills:
2+ years of experience in embedded software development
Knowledge in automotive vehicle electrical systems and microcontrollers
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) for multi-core microcontrollers.
Experience with designing, developing, and testing AUTOSAR BSW Layers (Memory Services, Boot Services, Instrumentation Services, Task Services, and Complex Device Drivers).
Experience with embedded compiler, linker, debugging tools, and software such as Lauterbach, ETAS INCA, CANalyzer, oscilloscopes, and other general lab equipment
Experience with ISO 26262 Safety practices
