McKesson is an impact-driven, Fortune 10 company that touches virtually every aspect of healthcare. We are known for delivering insights, products, and services that make quality care more accessible and affordable. Here, we focus on the health, happiness, and well-being of you and those we serve – we care.

What you do at McKesson matters. We foster a culture where you can grow, make an impact, and are empowered to bring new ideas. Together, we thrive as we shape the future of health for patients, our communities, and our people. If you want to be part of tomorrow’s health today, we want to hear from you.

Senior Director, Software Engineering

Own the Strategy. Drive the Execution. Deliver the Impact.

We’re looking for a Senior Director of Software Engineering to drive innovation, shape technology strategy, and build high-performing teams. This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on driving continuous improvement, aligning technology with business goals, and creating impact at scale.

The ideal candidate sees opportunities where others see obstacles, values feedback as a tool for growth and proactively fosters collaboration across teams to deliver meaningful outcomes. If you’re passionate about leading transformation, driving accountability, and developing future leaders, this role is for you.

Who You Are:

  • You drive innovation, thinking ahead about where technology is going and how it must evolve to support future needs.
  • You work backward from deadlines, keeping multiple teams on track and driving accountability across functions. You own the delivery of the product, ensuring seamless execution—regardless of how many teams are involved.
  • You drive change and don’t settle for the status quo. You don’t wait for someone else to fix issues or complain when things aren’t done—you take action and improve how things are done.
  • You hold both business and technology accountable, negotiating with business, IT teams, and leaders to highlight inefficiencies in a positive and collaborative way—driving alignment instead of conflict.
  • You proactively engage with business stakeholders, procurement, and IT leaders to ensure visibility and clarity. You make work transparent, keeping leadership and stakeholders informed.
  • You bridge business and technology, embracing single-threaded leadership by setting up MBRs and Tech SteerCo to ensure transparency, prioritization, and alignment with business goals. You think end-to-end, not just “my part is done.”
  • You build a culture of knowledge sharing, ensuring long-term success, not just delivering one project.
  • You grow leaders—not just developers—scaling talent, building succession plans, and eliminating bottlenecks.

What You’ll Own:

  • Engineering Strategy – Define and execute a scalable, high-impact roadmap.
  • Execution & Delivery – Drive business-critical solutions with precision.
  • Cross-Team Accountability – Ensure all teams work toward a common goal.
  • Problem-Solving & Influence – Remove roadblocks without escalations.
  • Operational Maturity – Build a high-accountability, knowledge-sharing culture.
  • Business Alignment – Ensure engineering priorities evolve with company needs.
  • Capacity & Resources – Optimize team structure and utilization.
  • Leadership & Succession – Develop high-performers into the next wave of leaders.

What You Bring:

  • 12+ years in software engineering, 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to scale teams and execute complex initiatives.
  • Expertise in software architecture, cloud, DevOps, and modern engineering practices.
  • Strong business acumen—you think beyond code to company impact.
  • Ability to negotiate across business, IT, and leadership teams to drive alignment and improvements in a collaborative way.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Why This Role Matters:

This isn’t just another leadership role. It’s an opportunity to drive transformation, create sustainable change, and position technology as a true business partner. If you’re ready to own outcomes, drive accountability, grow leaders, and push technology forward, we want to talk.
