SALARY RANGE: $15.00 - $28.80 HOURLY
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
As an Intern at The Baltimore City Office of Information & Technology on the Identity & Access Management (IdAM) team, our program will:
Provide opportunities for secondary/higher education students to serve as technical interns within the government industry and work alongside experienced IT professionals in an increasingly challenging and fast paced atmosphere.
Interns will obtain feedback from their managers throughout the program, as well as assistance with managing roadblocks along the way. Beginning with virtual orientation, interns will benefit from various aspects of BCIT’s culture.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The BCIT Identity & Access Management (IdAM) Internship may include the following:
Access rights, and deactivating accounts when necessary. This could involve using IAM tools and systems to manage user identities across various platforms and applications.
- Access Control Reviews: Participate in access control reviews to ensure that users have appropriate access permissions based on their roles and responsibilities within the organization. This might involve auditing user access rights and making recommendations for adjustments as needed.
- Documentation and Reporting: Assist in documenting IAM processes, procedures, and guidelines. This could include creating user guides, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). You might also be involved in generating reports on user access metrics, compliance, and security incidents.
- Supporting IAM Systems: Help troubleshoot issues related to IAM systems and tools. This could involve investigating user access problems, resolving authentication issues, and providing support to end-users who need assistance with accessing resources securely.
- Identity Lifecycle Management: Participate in managing the lifecycle of user identities within the organization. This might include onboarding new employees, managing role changes and promotions, and offboarding employees who leave the organization.
- Security Awareness Training: Assist in developing and delivering security awareness training programs for employees. This could involve educating users about best practices for managing their passwords, recognizing phishing attempts, and understanding their responsibilities regarding access control.
- Compliance and Audit Support: Support the IAM team in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to identity and access management. This might involve participating in audits, responding to audit inquiries, and implementing controls to address compliance gaps.
- Research and Innovation: Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in identity and access management. This could involve conducting research, evaluating new IAM solutions, and making recommendations for improving the organization's IAM capabilities.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other teams such as IT, security, and compliance to ensure alignment on IAM initiatives and objectives. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates on IAM projects, and address concerns or issues as they arise.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency, effectiveness, and security of IAM processes and systems. This could involve identifying opportunities for automation, streamlining workflows, and implementing enhancements based on feedback from users and stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior.
- Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution.
- Graduated from a Maryland high school but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution.
- Graduated from a Maryland high school and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program.
- Available to work a minimum of 20 per week.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interest of AD administration, Exchange email account set up, and/or Workday system administration (permissions management, roles, and domains)
- Passion for computer and customer support, applications analysis, and/or data security and testing
- Must have a strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
- Must be a team player who prefers a collaborative environment
- Working knowledge of MS Excel
