PRIMARY DETAIL

• Annual base salary from $108,391 - S117,519 (HEW Level 7 ) plus 17%
employer’s superannuation contribution and annual leave loading.
• Full time, fixed-term contract ending 31st December 2026.

About the role

The Data Analyst plays a vital role in leveraging healthcare data to drive informed decision-making, optimize operations, and enhance patient care within the university hospital. This role will be responsible for collecting, analysing, and interpreting complex data sets, translating them into actionable insights that support the hospital's strategic goals and digital transformation initiatives.

Your key areas of responsibilities:

  • Data Standardisation, Mapping and Quality - Transform heterogeneous healthcare data into the Common Data Model (CDM) by mapping local codes to standardised vocabularies.

  • Data Collection and Preparation - Identify and access relevant data sources across the hospital, including clinical, administrative, financial, and research data. Extract, clean, and transform data into usable formats for analysis.

  • Data Analysis and Interpretation - Utilize statistical and data analysis techniques to explore and analyse data, identify patterns, trends, and correlations. Apply data mining and modelling techniques to uncover hidden insights and predict future outcomes.

  • Reporting and Communication - Prepare clear and concise reports and presentations that translate data insights into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

  • Continuous Improvement - Identify opportunities to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting processes. Stay abreast of new data analytics tools, techniques, and industry best practices.

As the Data Analyst, you will Independently explore and analyse data within defined project scope across the hospital, create visualisations, extract meaningful insights from complex healthcare data and reports to effectively communicate findings to stakeholders without extensive oversight.

This a full time, fixed term contract ending 31 December 2026 based at Macquarie University, Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde.

You will be a self-starting individual with excellent work organisation, time management skills and ability to work under pressure. You will have strong analytical skills, an eye for detail and be able to effectively communicate with clients and stakeholders at all levels.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in data science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a healthcare or research setting.

  • Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, R, Power BI).

  • Experience with data mining, modelling, and visualization techniques.

  • Curious mindset and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to translate data insights into actionable recommendations for improving patient care and operational efficiency.

  • Ability to effectively communicate complex data findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, using clear language and visualisations.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience with analysing clinical and operational data in a healthcare setting.

  • Understanding of data privacy and security regulations in healthcare.
